Bimodal

Go Back

Definition

A characteristic of a frequency distribution which has two Modes, or distinct peaks, usually indicating that the data samples were taken from two processes that were analyzed as one process.

Examples

Consider the output of two different machines, where the distribution of each is normal but the mean of one machine is shifted away from that of the other. If samples are taken from both machines but analyzed as coming from a single process, the resulting frequency distribution is likely to be bimodal.
