Definition
Gage reproducibility assesses the ability of the gage to give consistent readings when different appraisers measure the same part/sample with the same device or system. It is a measure of how well the appraisers conform to the measurement procedure.
Reproducibility is a part of Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) studies performed on continuous data, usually in the manufacturing environment. In the mathematical analysis, it is calculated as the Appraiser Variation (AV) which is the variation in the measurements obtained by a multiple appraisers with the same equipment/gage on the same part/sample. A high appraiser variation may be an indication of inadequate appraiser training or a measuring procedure that is not clear and uniform.
Inadequate gage reproducibility can be corrected using standard operating procedures with clear written instructions and visual aids for the standard usage of equipment and training the appraisers as far as possible at the same time and in the same manner to ensure better adherence to procedures.
