Go Back

Definition

The z-score or standard score is calculated by subtracting the sample mean from the observed value and dividing the difference by the sample standard deviation: (X - mean)/std. dev.

It gives the number of Standard Deviations between the observed value and the mean. It relates the data point to the Standard Normal Distribution, with Mean=0 and standard deviation=1.
